WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 3.1 OF WPTOOLS?
Version 3.1 differs from Version 3.0 in only one respect. Bugs in
MERGESUM, which, among other things, limited it to processing
approximately 9 files at a time, have been fixed. There are NO other
changes in the programs or the documentation.

WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 3 OF WPTOOLS?
New Programs:
WPTOOLS3 has two new programs, MERGESUM and WP5LOOK.
WP5LOOK is a file browsing utility for WP5 document files, with
backscrolling and string searching. Useful for reading WP5 files
whenever using WP5 itself is not convenient -- for example, when
there is not enough memory because you are shelling from another
program.
MERGESUM creates a WP5 secondary merge file containing document
summaries and information from the DOS file directory. MERGESUM
optionally includes in the merge file information about files
without document summaries, using DOS file directory information
and the first 400 characters of the document. With WP5's merge
and sort capabilities, you can then manipulate the output to
create whatever kind of list or catalog you want.
Improved Programs:
Of the eleven programs in WPTOOLS Version 2, ten have been
improved. Only PRINTIT is unchanged. Here are the changes:
DISKFONT Now optionally writes its output as a WP5 document
file.
FIXPRE No longer requires specification of an output
file. If none is supplied, FIXPRE will rename the
original input file with an automatically-supplied
backup name, and the fixed output file will have
the original input file's name.
FONTFILE Now optionally writes its output as a WP5 document
file.
FONTLIST (1) Now writes a slightly cleaner list of fonts.
(2) Now optionally writes its output as a WP5
document file.
(3) Now properly handles some files for which it
previously produced a severely truncated list.
LISTMACS Now optionally writes its output as a WP5 document
file.
MAKETABS Modified to preserve output when keyboard input is
terminated with ^C.
PRSFONTS (1) Optionally numbers the font names. These
numbers are useful if you download fonts from the
DOS command line to an HP LaserJet Series II, and
perhaps to other printers as well.
(2) Now optionally writes its output as a WP5
document file.
(3) Output now includes only the fonts --
extraneous words at the beginning of the list
should no longer appear.
(4) The 50,000 character limit on the list of
fonts has been reduced by 3,000.
STYLIST Now optionally writes its output as a WP5 document
file.
WHATPTRS (1) Now optionally writes its output as a WP5
document file.
(2) Optionally sorts the list of printers.
(3) If printer name begins with *, the * is moved
to the end of the printer name for better sorting.
(4) The short form output option has been
eliminated.
WPSNOOP Now optionally writes its output as a WP5 document
file.
